- 5 years
Courses Required:
- Plumbing Codes, Heating, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, Hydronic Heating, Safety Protocols, Proper Use and Maintenance of Hand Tools, Rigging Techniques, and Fundamentals of Pneumatics.
Scope of Work
Plumbers:
Active and strenuous. Stand for prolonged periods, sometimes in cramped, uncomfortable positions. Must climb ladders and also work below ground level. Work can be dirty, particularly on waste systems.
Pipefitters:
Pipe Fitters perform work in both indoor and outdoor environments. On new construction sites, they typically begin their tasks once the structural framework is completed. The work is physically demanding and requires extensive walking, standing, lifting, reaching, and maneuvering in confined spaces. Due to the nature of their work, Pipe Fitters are often exposed to potential hazards associated with high-pressure steam, gas, and chemical lines.
Working Conditions
Plumbers:
Responsible for the installation of water supply systems for kitchens, bathrooms, lavatories, and other fixtures in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. Duties also include the installation of natural gas and air lines. Tasks involve assembling, installing, and repairing pipes, fittings, and fixtures in accordance with specifications and plumbing codes. Work includes measuring, cutting, threading, bending, and testing piping systems and components. All work is performed based on blueprints, technical specifications, and construction drawings, following the required sequence of installation.
Pipefitters:
Pipe Fitters are responsible for installing piping systems that transport hot water, steam, air, and other liquids or gases essential for industrial processes or various other applications. They specialize in both high- and low-pressure systems, primarily within industrial and commercial facilities. Their duties include laying out, fabricating, and assembling piping systems based on blueprints, technical drawings, and detailed specifications. Additionally, they install piping for heating and cooling systems, as well as automatic fire sprinkler systems in buildings.
