Length of Program

  • 4 years
  • Includes 6,000 hours on both “on-the-job” and classroom training


Requirements:

  • Must be US citizen or legally imigrated alien
  • Live in Michigan / geographical area as specified for each individual training program conducted by their local Applicants
  • Proficient reading and math skills
  • Proficient mechanical skills and good hand-eye coordination
  • Pass the aptitude test and a series of interviews

Scope of Work

Operating Engineers are responsible for the operation and maintenance of heavy and portable construction equipment. These skilled professionals operate machinery such as bulldozers and scrapers on highway projects, cranes on building sites, and hydraulic backhoes for sewer and water line installations. They may also work with large-scale equipment like asphalt plants. Due to the nature of the work, operating engineers often experience seasonal employment and are regularly exposed to varying weather conditions, particularly when working with open-cab machinery.
